Robert Weston, Nederlandse country artiest vol energie en passie
Als je je afvraagt of Nederland nieuwe aanwas heeft van country muzikanten? Ja zeker. Robert Weston is daar één van en timmert aardig aan de weg om bij een groot publiek door te breken. Zijn invloeden zijn artiesten zoals George Jones, Garth Brooks en George Strait. Dat hoor je min of meer terug in Weston’s muziek, maar hij heeft daarnaast ook een geheel eigen stijl gecreëerd. Een stijl die helemaal bij de huidige moderne tijd past en ideaal geschikt is voor het Nederlandse country muziek landschap.
De afgelopen drie jaar was hij een onmisbaar onderdeel van de country band Ramblin’ Boots. Een band die naast Nederlandse optredens ook het buitenland opzocht. Optredens waren er in landen zoals België, Duitsland, Polen en Zwitserland. Robert Weston heeft door zijn privé situatie gekozen om de band te verlaten en solo verder te gaan. Een keuze die wel eens goed kan uitpakken luisterend naar zijn solo materiaal.
Zijn eerste solo EP FIRST verscheen vorig jaar en is een heerlijke plaat die alle ingrediënten afvinkt van goede country muziek. Dat begint al gelijk met opener Bar Like This. Uitstekend single materiaal en je krijgt gelijk de neiging om het refrein hard mee te zingen. Dat zijn wat mij betreft alleen maar positieve signalen. Slow Down is een andere lichtpuntje van FIRST. Een mooie liefdes track die de gevoelige kant van Weston blootlegt.
Je merkt aan alles dat Weston geen moeite heeft om te schakelen tussen ballads en uptempo nummers. Elk nummer is met passie ingekleurd en laten de vakkundigheid en professionaliteit van Weston horen.
Dat doet Robert Weston overigens niet alleen. Hij schakelt Nashville in om zijn muziek flair en kracht mee te geven. En ik geef hem geen ongelijk. Dat is precies wat hij nodig heeft en brengt zijn muziek naar een hoger niveau. Zijn nieuwe single Leave This Bed (14 juli beschikbaar) is daar het perfecte voorbeeld van. Samen geschreven met Brett Trout is dit een prachtige tearjerking country ballad waar er duidelijk gebruikt is gemaakt van de kennis uit Music Row.
Op dit moment is Weston bezig met zijn tweede EP. Dat doet hij (online) met Nashville schrijvers zoals Levi Gray, Dakota Jay, Ryan Kinder en Will King. Zodra de mogelijkheid bestaat om weer te reizen naar Amerika gaat Weston zijn songmateriaal in Nashville opnemen. Alles wijst er in ieder geval op dat hij de juiste keuze heeft gemaakt om solo te gaan. Dat blijkt al uit de FIRST EP en zijn nieuwe singles. Je hoort de kwaliteit, passie en bevlogenheid in zijn muziek. Dat Robert Weston het goede pad bewandelt daar bestaat geen twijfel over mogelijk. Het is alleen een kwestie van tijd wanneer hij door gaat breken bij een groot publiek.

Last is a folk song in the more modern style – the main instrumentation comes from Robert’s acoustic guitar and piano. The track has a very anthemic feel to it and there’s something very melancholic about the main melody, which I simply loved. Robert will hopefully be releasing his second EP this year (pandemic willing), so if you like this track then be sure to check it out. For now, check out Last below!
‘First’ by Robert Weston
Although, country music isn't my daily style, still, I see it relative to my main passion which is rock music, you know why because it imitates our daily life. One of the main reasons to write about Robert Weston's debut EP is his incredible voice.
I have always loved country artists who are influenced by rock bands. And I don't know there's something about his voice, it simply catches your ears easily the vocals of these Dutchman. What I love about this EP isn't only his voice but what's really cool is the music, it's so smooth more than you can think.
Also, it's pretty obvious his experience and professionalism, and this isn't surprising really especially when I found that he was a member of the stunning country group Ramblin' Boots. The band already had several tours in Belgium, Germany, Denmark, Poland, Norway, and Switzerland. In addition to that, they were supporting the Davisson Brothers (from WV) in Myrtl Beach (SC) and they also played a gig in Nashville, USA back in 2019. Currently, he is working on his second EP which he's going to record the songs in Nashville, later this year.

Leave This Bed es lo último de Robert Weston, quien llega con la acumulación perfecta de country para entrar en nuestra memoria y no salir de ella sin que hayas llorado un poco después de sentir la profundidad en la voz de Robert, quien nos anima a entrar en un espacio de nostalgia, que no puede parar por su inmensas ganas de paz. Lo que hay en esta canción es una serie de excusas para escapar y encontrarte a ti mismo en el recuerdo presente por animarte a gozar sin ninguna culpa. Esto nos encanta, porque es pura magia para sentir a cada segundo.

Es una propuesta que expresa toda la felicidad que encierras después de llegar al final de tu camino. Nos gusta porque es un himno que funciona para identificar que hemos crecido en este mundo y que sólo puede importar que aprendamos de una vez. Nos encanta porque es una emoción pura desde Países Bajos para este mundo que lo necesitaba.
